In Memoriam: Denis Axelby
It is with deep sadness that we honour the life and legacy of Denis Axelby, a cherished Life Member of our community whose dedication, generosity, and spirit left a lasting mark on all who knew him.
Beyond his formal contributions, Denis will be remembered for his warmth, integrity, and kindness.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on.
The U15 Best & Fairest Trophy now stands as a tribute to his legacy, and for this year’s recipient, it will hold a particularly special honour.
About
The Belconnen Cats cater for U5 Auskick through to U17 Junior Football competitions. We are a family orientated AFL club focused on safety, fun and skill development.We are a feeder club to the Belconnen Magpies Football Club, and field teams in the open and girls only AFL Canberra competitions.We are a football community welcoming players, volunteers, families, supporters and our sponsors.

2026 Season Dates
The 2026 football season will commence on 2nd/3rd May 2026 and will run until mid August. For competitive age groups, finals rounds will start on 22nd/23rd August.
Across all age groups, there will be a general bye for the King's Birthday weekend and July school holidays on 6th/7th June and 11th/12th July respectively.
Registrations
There are two separate areas for registration, depending on age.
Auskick & Superkick, U5 - U8
The Auskick & Superkick programs run across two age groups. Within each age group there is a mixed competition or a girls-only competition.
Auskick includes U5, U6 & U7.
Superkick is for U8.

Junior Football, U9 - U17
Within each age group there is a mixed competition or a girls-only competition. Girls are required to play in the dedicated girls competition from U15's.
Depending on registrations, there are times when the Belconnen Cats teams may merge with a Magpies Junior Football team.
